Long live Chief Inspector Dreyfus

Today, while I was taking a break from staring at spreadsheets, I read that Herbert Lom, of the Pink Panther movies fame, had passed away. Honestly, I thought he had died years ago. I mean come on the man was 95. That’s an incredibly long time to live.

Regardless, this character is the one I refer to every time my eye twitches…which it started doing today. I’m not sure if it’s the desiccation from not blinking or general eye strain while reading spreadsheet after spreadsheet or merely a reaction to stress….like Chief Inspector Dreyfus when Clouseau would do or say something asinine.

If you haven’t seen the original Pink Panther movies, please do yourself a favor and watch them. You don’t have to watch them in order. They are pretty much episodic and of course ridiculous.

My favorite one is the Pink Panther Strikes Again. This is the one where Chief Inspector Dreyfus tries to take over the world with a doomsday device. Inspector Clouseau bumbles along in various disguises while Dreyfus and a team of assassins try to do him in.

Many a rainy weekend day has been spent watching these movies with my parents. It’s almost like watching baseball. You don’t really have to pay attention to the whole movie to appreciate it. Every once in a while something funny will happen and then we pay attention. Otherwise, we just chat over the slower parts. Does everyone do that or is it an annoying habit of mine? If it is, I learned it from my parents.
