>My cousin is getting ready to go to college next fall. Apparently, these days there are all these recommended immunizations that the kids have to get before they matriculate. What’s with this meningitis thing? Is it really spreading through dorms like wildfire? It seems a bit blown out of proportion. That linked list reads like she is getting ready to go to a third world country.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not one of those people against all vaccinations. You should get your MMR and polio shots before going to school. I can’t even imagine what it would be like not to have a regular tetanus shot. I’m even beginning to think the chicken pox vaccination should be done. And avoiding Hepatitis A & B seems like a good thing. But this HPV thing seems a bit fishy. No pun intended. The flu vaccine is total bunk. Everyone who gets the shot seems to get sick with the flu!

I would hope that the FDA would regulate these thing to make sure the drug companies are not just trying to make a fast buck. Of course, the current administration is not exactly a bastion of competence, so you are probably rolling the dice with any immunizations given the green light over the past 10 years or so.
