>Cal ISO Issues Stage One Emergency

The last time we had power issues, Ken Lay and his cronies were raping and pillaging through California’s power grid. Granted it’s about 110 outside right now, but I know I’ve been doing my part to use as little power as possible.

I get suspicious when a power plant suddenly goes off line. It seems a bit too convenient if you ask me. I’m not saying it’s not possible that the heat melted a transformer or something at one of those plants, but “once bitten twice shy” as they say.

I don’t understand how the power demand could be more today than yesterday? Yes, it’s hot, but alot of companies are closed and not using power. Plus, it was hot yesterday, too.

This article from the SFGate has a few power saving tips:

  • Set the thermostats on air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher.
  • Use appliances such as washers, dryers, dishwashers and vacuum cleaners only after 6:00 p.m.
  • Refrain from using electronic devices such as computers and televisions until evening.

Um, I’ll do everything, but not watch TV or use the computer until the evening. I have a hard time believing that my television and computer use THAT many megawatts.
