>Mumps, mumps, who’s got the mumps?

>Could someone explain this to me? Are these people not immunized? I thought you had to have your MMR shots before you could attend school. At least that’s what I remember.

I’ve been immunized 3 freaking times. First, when I was a baby. When I was about 8 years old because the school district felt that I had my MMR shot as baby one month too soon. They wouldn’t let me attend school until I could prove I wasn’t going to spread the diseases. Then there was a measles scare when I was about 16 years old and my mom dragged me and my sister down to the doctor to get the immunization again.

It’s either one of two things: 1) The shots aren’t as effective as once thought or 2) People aren’t getting their shots.

Either way, it’s just gnarly and I won’t be getting the mumps. Bird flu or bubonic plague, but not the mumps.

    >I had to get MMR before I started college b/c they only gave MMR vaccine to boys, girls only got a measles/rubella one (this was nearly 20yrs ago in the Caribbean – now everyone gets the MMR). I still got measles as a kid though. So who knows? I could still be in the running for mumps.

    >I’ve read articles on the pros and cons of vaccines. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if there were people not immunizing their kids!
