>I hate this time change business. All of the sudden, it gets dark at 5:00! It’s tough to get stuff done when it’s dark after work. I can’t even walk through my apartment complex to drop off the rent without being a little freaked out. Plus, work feels longer! If that’s not a little bit of hell, I don’t know what is.
Instead of extending the time frame for Daylight Savings, Congress should have gotten rid of it altogether. According to that Wikipedia entry:
Proponents claimed that the extension would save “the equivalent of” 10,000 barrels of oil per day, but this figure was based on U.S. Department of Energy information from the 1970s, the accuracy and relevance of which the DoE no longer stands by. There is very little recent research on what the actual positive effects, if any, might be.
Can’t we just keep the time the same all year long? There’s no evidence to support changing the time as a means to save energy, so why continue with the stupid tradition? Most people operate on a 8-5, Monday through Friday work week. Business hours really have little to do with the amount of daylight, as far as I can tell.
I’m sick of it. Fuck you, Ben Franklin!
