One of the exhibits at the State Fair this year is a salute to cartoons called, “Get Animated.” When you walk into the hall, you are slapped in the face with Disney.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Disneyland as much as the next person, but when I think of cartoons, Bugs Bunny and friends have made a bigger impact on my psyche.
Like Jerry Seinfeld, most of my culture (i.e. opera, old movie stars) was learned from watching Looney Tunes. When I hear the Barber of Seville or Flight of the Valkries, I remember Elmer Fudd being outwitted again and again.
What I like about the above photo is that it’s of the secondary characters most of us know and probably love:
- Witch Hazel always cracked me up, “A cup of tea, a cookie, and you-hoo”
- That random dog that would scare the crap out of the cat by sneaking up on it and barking like crazy then prancing happily away.
- The overly polite gophers with a good vocabulary – I’ve seen my mom and her sister act like these two.
Who doesn’t love a trip down memory lane? I wonder if these cartoon characters can still be found on TV.
