The other day, I noticed a strange ritual I perform. I was finishing off another bottle of wine (stop judging me) when I put the cork in a vase. I keep all the corks from my bottles of wine. Does anyone else do this? If not, what do you do with the corks? Just throw them away? Can they be recycled?
Yes, I googled it and apparently there are some companies who do recycle cork. Sadly, none of them seem to be in Minnesota. I take that back. Apparently, you can recycle cork at Whole Foods. I can’t seem to find any info on their website about it, but I did find a big list of places on this Cork Forest Conservation Alliance (CorkFCA.org) website.
I feel weird about throwing corks away. I’m not really sure why. I just feel like they should be saved. Unless of course they break off in the wine bottle and then all bets are off. Chuck them in the trash!
I love that you are proactive to recycling your corks. Have you ever tried many of those wine cork crafts on Pinterest? I love saving my wine corks in a wine cork holder with the intention to try out one of those crafts sometime.
I would reach out to the twitter-verse. I bet there are some crafty people in your area who would love corks for a craft project!
There are a lot craft tutorials on Pinterest that use corks!
I haven’t looked on Pinterest, but I might just do that. I think my need to reuse corks comes from my family. My grandfather used to take corks and make trivets and wall hangings…this was back in the early 90s. I have a little one he made for me.
