Let me apologize. You are going to be confused.
Today, I saw a commercial for a movie that starts on Friday, 11/11/11. But the announcer said it was going to be shown at midnight on Thursday.
Technically, midnight on Thursday happens on Wednesday night.
I told you you would be confused.
Would you like a diagram?
At 11:59 PM on Wednesday, it’s still Wednesday. One minute later, however, it is Thursday at 12:00 AM, what we all call midnight. But we still call that Wednesday night…even though it’s really Thursday…morning.
So, is the movie is going to be released at 12:00 AM on 11/10/11 or is it going to be released at 12:00 AM on 11/11/11?
Want to be confused more?
What day will it be a year from today? Is it 11/8/12 or is it 11/7/12? 365 days would be one less day on the calendar than it is today. But one year from today is the same date with a high number for the year.
How about a month? Is it 30 days from today or this same day of the month in December?
Blame my stupid random thoughts on the fact that I had to turn back my clock simply because of a lame tradition with little basis in scientific fact.
