I love movies. My husband is a music geek. There is a time when the two of these intersect in a movie. The other day I was thinking about the movies that have great soundtracks. Here is a list of my favorites in no particular order:
Great movie soundtracks #1 – Blues Brothers
Honestly, watch this movie simply for the music greats in it as well as the soundtrack. Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, James Brown, and Cab Calloway all make appearances. The movie itself has some great one liners too. “We’re on a mission from God.”
Great movie soundtracks #2 – Back to the Future
This is one of my favorite movies regardless of the soundtrack, but it also features songs by Huey Lewis & The News. Did I mention we played Power of Love as the “I now introduce the new couple” song?
Great movie soundtracks #3 – Singin in the Rain
I dare you to watch this movie and not enjoy the Make ‘Em Laugh scene. Donald O’Connor is a comic genius. Plus, I don’t really sing the titular song very much, mostly I find myself singing, Good Morning more than anything else. It’s a classic that should be on your to view list.
Great movie soundtracks #4 – Help
The second movie from the Beatles is one of my favorites. Besides featuring songs from one of the world’s best bands, it’s just so British. The British sense of humor is well displayed. Plus it has one of my favorite Beatles songs on it…no not Help, it’s The Night Before.
Great movie soundtracks #5 The Commitments
This movie from the early 90s features an Irish soul music band. It’s about trying to bring your dreams to fruition no matter how ridiculous they might seem. Most of the actors in this movie are unknowns, but the real star is the music. There are some classics by Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, and Martha & the Vandellas.
What movie soundtracks do you enjoy?
Have I written a post on movie soundtracks? Hmm. Maybe I will now and link to your post as my inspiration. 10th anniversary is next week and I need some fresh content!
Do it! My blog’s 10th anniversary is in September. I think SITS is going to have some month long writing prompts for July.
The Crow has a great soundtrack. It is only the best movie from the 90s! Rockstar is another with killer musicians. If you haven’t listened to them, I recommend checking them out.
Rockstar! Great songs on that soundtrack. Stand up & shout! How did I forget it? Yes, the Crow is one of my favorite movies too. I haven’t seen it in a while.
Great list! When I watched O, Brother, Where Art Thou? I went straight from the theater to EFY a few doors down and immediately bought the soundtrack. That’s the sign of a good soundtrack for me.
misssrobin recently posted…I’m Sorry to Have Taken Your Time
I’ve heard that was a good soundtrack. Haven’t seen the movie. I’m not a big fan of the Odyssey, so it didn’t really intrigue me.
