LEGO Advent Calendar: A fun countdown to Christmas

LEGO-Advent-CalendarLooking for a fun way to count down to Christmas, but really don’t want to have more candy in the house? Try a LEGO Advent Calendar. The one pictured above is the one my husband got last year.

When I was a kid, I loved the chocolate advent calendars. They had really crappy, waxy chocolate, but I just loved the idea of getting a prize to count down to Christmas. Whoever came up with the LEGO Advent Calendar is a genius. You don’t have to worry that you’ll get a crappy treat. You’ll get a LEGO each day, so you know it’s going to be good.

My husband usually gets two of these each year as a Christmas gift. He’d rather open all of them up at once. It’s the privilege of being an adult. You get to do all those things you wanted to do as a kid, but couldn’t.

There are three different advent calendars available.

LEGO City Advent Calendar

LEGO City Advent Calendar

LEGO City Advent Calendar #60063 (Amazon Affiliate Link)

This set is focused on the City theme. It’s a fun basic Christmas set which will add some holiday cheer to your ongoing collection. Personally, this is my favorite. I’m a basic Christmas person. It’s one of the few traditional things about me. Scroll down if you don’t want to know what it includes.

What is has: It includes 7 minifigures with assorted accessories: a boy, woman, girl, crook, 2 policemen and Santa. Features a mailbox, frog, snowman, cake stand with 2 cups and a pie, food stand with fruit and vegetables, window with decorations, wagon with a baguette, catapult with 3 snowballs, LEGO® duck, dog with bone, police scooter with sled, dinner table with roast turkey, 2 glasses, bottle, 2 Christmas gifts and a tricycle.

NOTE: I’ve heard that this is difficult to find this holiday season. It’s even sold out on the LEGO website as I write this blog post. I’ve attached a link to find it on Amazon, but I also recommend you look in your local Target or Toys ‘R Us stores to see if you can find it closer to the suggested retail price of $29.99.

LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar

LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 75056

LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 75056 (Amazon Affiliate Link)

This set is a Star Wars themed advent calendar. We all know LEGO and Star Wars go so well together, but add in Christmas and you have a whole new level of fun. It’s not super Christmas-y. It’s mostly Star Wars stuff with a
tiny bit of Christmas thrown in. Star Wars fans won’t care. They’ll love it. I mean, it is Star Wars. Scroll down if you don’t want to know what this set includes.

What it has: This set includes 7 minifigures and 3 droids, including an exclusive holiday-themed minifigure. Vehicles include an AAT, AV-7 Anti Vehicle Cannon, Vulture Droid, Jedi Starfighter, TIE Fighter, Luke’s Landspeeder, Snowspeeder, Christmas Speeder Bike and an Imperial Shuttle.

NOTE: I’ve heard that this one is also difficult to find. It’s sold out on the LEGO website as of the writing of this post. I’ve attached a link to one for sale on Amazon, but I encourage you to check your local Target or Toys ‘R Us stores to see if you can find one for closer to the suggested retail price of $39.99.

LEGO Friends Advent Calendar

LEGO Friends Advent Calendar 41040

This is the line of LEGO products aimed at girls. It’s covered in purples and pinks and has girl related things in
it. This set includes Mia and Ewa mini-doll figures with 24 buildable surprises. Personally, I think it’s funny that the LEGO website doesn’t list out the items included in this advent calendar. Mostly, it’s furniture and household items. In the scheme of things, this set of girl themed toys isn’t that bad. In my opinion, it’s not that Christmasy, (then again neither is the Star Wars one) but if you have a little one who likes this line, it’s a good purchase.

NOTE: This too has recently sold out online at the LEGO website. As stated above, I have a link to one available on Amazon, but I encourage you to look at your local Target or Toys ‘R Us stores to find one closer to the suggested retail price of $29.99.

LOL! Thanks! I’m finding that you might have to purchase these LEGO advent calendars back in October. They seem to be very popular and sell out quickly. You never know though. They could get another shipment in before Christmas.

Hi Amy. I just wanted to thank you for your minifigure bump codes. My son and I go into all the stores near us and feel the Lego packs for long periods of time to find the ones we want. We’re pretty good at it (I say puffing out my chest with pride!), and have yet to get doubles. My son is 9, and loses patience after awhile, but I could do it all day. I may have a problem. Anyway, as much as I enjoy figuring out what’s in the bag, not to mention the questions and looks I get from people who work in the store and notice I’ve been feeling up the little bags, with a faraway look on my face, for the last 40 minutes, I found your bump codes for Series 13 to be spot on, and extremely helpful (not to mention time saving). I especially like it when people see me checking your site on my phone and comparing the codes, come up to me and say, “You really think you can figure out what’s in the bag?” “Yup. Haven’t gotten a double yet!!” is all I say (because my son is standing there and I can’t say what I really want to say to them…snarky little #^&!@*s – go away, I’m in the zone!)
So, thank you, Amy!! And, yeah, I still like to feel the bags just to keep things fresh, but now that I have your codes, I don’t have to stand there until my feet fall asleep.

Keep ’em coming. The second Simpsons series is supposed to come out soon (this month, maybe?), and we will be feeling those bags until we get every last one of those freaky little people to add to the last batch!!!
    Take care,
    Chris
