I’m not a huge Alice in Wonderland fan. In fact, that latest iteration with Johnny Depp scared the crap out of me…well, the trailers did anyway, I don’t go to the movies much, but that’s for a different post.

But, I am a fan of random holidays. So, I tend to refer to the Brownielocks website to see if there is a “legitimate” excuse for celebrating other than the fact that I am still alive.

I put legitimate in quotes because some “holidays” are really just marketing ploys by the likes of the National Taco Foundation or American Pie Bakers Association to get you to buy more of their stuff.

So, yesterday, I came across Mad Hatter Day. Why is today Mad Hatter Day?

“MadHatterDay is 10/6. The date was chosen from the illustrations by John Tenniel in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland..”

You’ve seen it…I think even in the Disney version. He’s got that oversized hat on with the slip of paper sticking out of it.

Basically, it’s just a day to celebrate silliness according to the unofficial/official website. Of course, most of us don’t need a special day to act crazy or silly. For me, it’s just Wednesday…wait, it’s Thursday.

All I know is that if it is raining again in the afternoon, I am going to go to the nearest bar after work to have a drink to celebrate Mad Hatter Day. Sitting in traffic again is just too crazy even if it is the responsible thing to do.

Also, it’s my un-birthday!

PS. The SciFi/SyFy Channel version is my favorite version of the Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass tale mostly because I thought Hatter was hot.
