>I recently saw that movie, Babies with a friend of mine.  It was interesting even if there was little to no dialogue, but for the first 10 minutes of the movie all I kept thinking was, “Why the hell are there so many flies in Africa?”

At dinner tonight, I was summarizing the movie for my mom and I mentioned that the two kids in the undeveloped countries never wore diapers.  There is a scene where the baby in Africa is pooping right on to his mom’s knee.  She then scrapes it off with a dried corn cob right on to the floor of the hut.

Then my mom said, “Well that’s why there are so many flies.  There is poop everywhere.”

>I’ve been off work all this week helping out my sister with her new baby.  Being with my family for so long, I feel like my brain has been on sleep mode.

Although, there was a moment on Easter where my Dad who is an old school liberal started arguing politics with my sister’s in-laws who are dyed in the wool Republicans.  I sat there on the couch cradling the newborn, thinking, “Again can we just adhere to the adage that it’s impolite to talk about politics, sex and religion in mixed company?”

Granted, I don’t know who started the conversation, but I would have hard time believing my Dad brought anything controversial up.  The only other liberals in the family are me and my Mom.  He’s been living amongst conservatives long enough to know it’s better to keep the peace and make small talk than it is to discuss hot topics such as healthcare and gay marriage.  Seriously, talking about that stuff at family functions is not going to get most people to change their minds.  It’s tough to make a logical argument seem logical to someone who doesn’t share your point of view…especially when you are surrounded by chocolate bunnies and painted eggs.
