>Many people say that they want a date or mate who is funny, but do they really? Lately, I’ve been told by guys that I’m funny or at least my writing is funny. I have even been asked if I am that funny in person. I’m not sure I would describe myself as funny. Of course, I make myself laugh and occasionally seem to make a few other people laugh, but am I funny? Funny is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. Good lord, I’ve written the word funny so many times, it looks funny.
It just seems to me, and my perception might be skewed here, that when my online dating profile was boring and pretty much similar to everyone else, I had more dates. Getting a bunch of dates is not what I want though…(she reminded herself) So, I updated my blurb to make it more humorous and possibly interesting. Granted, it’s only been a month or so, but I just don’t feel like I’m getting the same reaction as last year.
Maybe I’ve just seen one too many romantic comedies to think that the wacky gal next door gets all the laughs, but none of the guys. Is being funny intimidating to guys? Yes, one guy said that he thought I was intimidating, which is really odd. I mean what’s so intimidating about me? I can’t speak five languages. I don’t make millions of dollars a year. I haven’t climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro (nor do I want to). And even if I did do all those things, they shouldn’t be cause for intimidation. They should make me interesting. They should be sources of conversation.
