Not to get all Reality Bites here, but if you don’t know, Merriam Webster defines irony as “the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning” Sarcasm is usually ironic. “I’m so happy to be here!” When in fact, I’d rather be anywhere else.
Take a look at this screen shot of Yahoo today. Whoever wrote the headline pictured to the right about Jimmie Johnson’s kid really needs to study their craft a bit more. To clarify, Jimmie Johnson’s daughter’s initials being GM is not ironic, but coincidental and curious, unless of course Chevrolet is the opposite of General Motors.
